Rainbow Boa Snake

The Rainbow Boa Snake is among the missable animals in Red Dead Redemption 2, as it only appears in Guarma, so studying and skinning it is not required to get the Zoologist and Skin Deep trophies. Like all the snakes in the game, it appears more often in the area right on the “E” in Arroyo De La Vibora on the map. Snakes are carnivores, so use a Predator Bait to make one appear. Being small animals, the bow armed with small game arrows is the only weapon capable of getting a perfect kill. They yield their skin and stringy meat when killed, which can be used in crafting and cooking respectively.

The bow armed with small game arrows is the only weapon capable of getting a perfect kill on snakes. They yield their skin and stringy meat, which are used in crafting and cooking. Red Swamp Crayfish

The Red Swamp Crayfish is an uncommon animal, but it’s not too difficult to find, as it appears very frequently all over the swamplands of Bayou Nwa. It’s an omnivore, so both the Predator and Herbivore baits are good to flush one out. Being small but with a strong carapace, you must use the bow armed with regular arrows to get a perfect kill on them. Not that it’s really important, as Red Swamp Crayfish don’t yield material once killed, outside of crustacean meat that can be used for cooking. Their carcass, however, can be sold to any trader for a small amount of money. As a side note, the Red Swamp Crayfish carcasses can also be used as fishing bait.

Red-bellied Woodpecker

The Red-bellied Woodpecker can only be found in the areas near Roanoke Ridge. They are omnivorous, so either type of bait is ok to make one appear. Being small birds, only the bow armed with small game arrows can score a perfect kill. They yield a carcass, feathers and gamey bird meat, which can be sold to traders or used in crafting and cooking.

Red-footed Booby

The Red-footed Booby is among the missable animals in Red Dead Redemption 2, as it only appears in Guarma. As such, it’s not required to study or skin it for the Zoologist and Skin Deep trophies. It’s carnivore, so use Predator bait while on the island during the first few mission in Chapter 5 to lure one out. As rather small birds, Red-footed Booby can be killed without damaging the carcass too much only with the bow armed with small game arrows. They yield feathers, which can be used in crafting arrows, and gamey bird meat, which can be used in cooking.

Red-tailed Hawk

The Red-tailed Hawk is slightly more difficult to encounter than the Ferruginous Hawk, as it only appears in New Hanover, West Elizabeth, and New Austin. The latter region is where it appears more often. Red-tailed Hawks are omnivorous, so any type of bait is good to make one appear. Like the other hawks, the Red-tailed Hawk is a small and weak animal, compared to many others, so the Varmint Rifle armed with 0.22 shots is the only weapon that must be used to get a perfect kill. They yield hawk feathers and gamey bird meat once killed, which are used in crafting and cooking.

Reddish Egret

The Reddish Egret is a somewhat uncommon animal, as it can only be found in the swampland of Bayou Nwa. It’s a carnivore, so only Predator and Potent Predator baits can make them appear. Being bigger than regular birds, small game arrows are not enough to get a perfect kill on them, so use the Varmint Rifle armed with 0.22 shots to take them down. They yield feathers and game meat, which are used to craft arrows and other items and in cooking.

Ring-billed Gull

The Ring-billed Gull is commonly found in Saint Denis, near the docks. The bird also appears often alongside the other gull species near the northwestern shore of Flat Iron Lake. As omnivorous, they will appear with either type of bait. The bow armed with the small game arrows is the only weapon capable of getting a perfect kill on these birds. Gull feathers are used to craft hat accessories as well as other items, while gamey bird meat is used in cooking.

Ring-necked Pheasant

The Ring-necked Pheasant is a rather common bird that can be found in the grasslands of New Hanover and West Elizabeth. A very good hunting area is located right to the southwest of Valentine, right below the “A” and “L” in Valentine. These birds are omnivorous, so either type of bait is ok to make one appear. Being very small, the bow armed with small game arrows is the only way to score a perfect kill on them. They drop pheasant feathers and game meat, which can be used to craft hat accessories and in cooking, respectively.

Rio Grande Wild Turkey

The Rio Grande Wild Turkey is among the animals you can find last, as it is native to the New Austin region. A very good hunting spot is right on the “S” in Austin on the map. Like all turkeys, Rio Grande Wild Turkeys are omnivores, so use any type of bait to make one appear. Rio Grande Wild Turkeys can be killed without being damaged to much only with the Varmint Rifle armed with 0.22 shots. They leave feathers and plump bird meat behind, which are used in crafting and cooking.

Rock Pigeon

The Rock Pigeon is way more common than the Band-tailed Pigeon, as it can be found pretty much in all regions. The best hunting spot, however, is the same one where the other pigeon type spawns more frequently, the rocks in the Dakota River to the north of Bard’s Crossing. Since they eat both fruits and worms, both the Herbivore and the Predator bait can make one appear. The bow armed with small game arrows is the only weapon capable of getting a perfect kill on Rock Pigeons. They leave behind their carcasses, feathers and gamey bird meat, which can be sold to traders and used in crafting and cooking. All Animal Locations Guide (2)

Rocky Mountain Bighorn Ram

The Rocky Mountain Bighorn Ram can only be found in the Grizzlies region. Some very good hunting spots are in the area between the “A” and “R” and on the “N” in Ambarino. Rams are herbivores, so use a Herbivore bait to make one appear. The bow armed with regular or poison arrows is the best weapon to score a perfect kill. Rifles armed with regular ammo are also a good choice, but if you kill the animal with more than one shot, you will not perform a perfect kill. The pelt, horns and gristly mutton can be used in crafting and cooking.

Rocky Mountain Bighorn Sheep

The Rocky Mountain Bighorn Sheep appears in the same areas the Rocky Mountain Bighorn Sheep does, so all over the Grizzlies and in select hunting spots near the “A” and “R” and on the “N” in Ambarino. Sheep are omnivorous, so use Herbivore baits to lure one out. Sheep are not strong at all, so the bow armed with regular arrows and repeaters are good for scoring a perfect kill. They yield a hide and gristly mutton, which are used in crafting and cooking.

Rocky Mountain Bull Elk

The Rocky Mountain Bull Elk can only be found in specific regions, such as Ambarino and the northeastern part of New Hanover, mostly in forested areas. The best hunting spots are found right on the Ambarino writing on the map and to the very north of Annesburg. Rocky Mountain Bull Elks are herbivores, so use a Potent or regular Herbivore bait to make one appear. These animals are quite resilient, so you must use a powerful weapon like a rifle to take them down and score a perfect kill. If you want to get closer to the animal, the bow armed with improved arrows is also a very good choice. The Perfect Elk Pelt can be used to craft special chaps, while antlers and mature venison can be used in crafting and cooking.

Rocky Mountain Cow Elk

The Rocky Mountain Cow Elk can be found in the same hunting areas where theRocky Mountain Bull Elk appears, in the Ambarino and New Hanover regions. They are herbivores, so only Herbivore baits will make them appear. Rocky Mountain Cow Elks are easily startled, so you must approach them very carefully if you’re planning to take one down perfectly with the bow armed with improved arrows. You can also score a perfect kill from afar by using any scoped rifle. A Perfect Elk Pelt can be used to craft a pair of chaps at trappers, while mature venison can be used in cooking.

Roseate Spoonbill

The Roseate Spoonbill is among the rarest animals in the game, as it’s native to the Bayou Nwa area and can only be found here. Spoonbills are omnivorous, so use whichever type of bait you have on hand to make one appear. The only way to score a perfect kill on Roseate Spoonbills is with the Varmint Rifle armed with 0.22 shots. They leave colorful feathers and gamey bird meat when killed, which can be used in crafting and cooking. All Animal Locations Guide (3)

Rough-legged Hawk

Rough-legged Hawks appear in the same areas the other hawks do. A very good hunting spot if found right to the south of the “N” in Hanover on the map. They are carnivores, so only Predator baits can make them appear. Like for the other hawks, only the Varmint Rifle armed with 0.22 shots can score a perfect kill on Rough-legged Hawks. They yield hawk feathers and gamey bird meat once killed, which can be used in crafting and cooking.

Rufus

Rufus is the Marston’s family dog, and he can be found in the Beecher’s Hope ranch in Epilogue 2.

Sandhill Crane

Sandhill Cranes, like Whooping Cranes, prefer wetlands so they can be found all over the Lemoyne and New Hanover regions near bodies of water. A very good hunting spot where they appear more often than usual is the area between Caliga Hall and Saint Denis, near the train track connecting them. Sandhill Cranes are omnivorous, so you can use either the Herbivore or Predator Bait to make them appear. Being rather small animals, and not too resilient, you can get a perfect kill on them only with the Varmint Rifle armed with 0.22 shots. They drop feathers and gamey bird meat once killed, which can be used in crafting arrows and cooking.

Scarlet Macaw

Like the other macaws, the Scarlet Macaw is also found only in Guarma, making it one of the few missable animals in the game. Studying and skinning one, however, is not required to obtain the Zoologist and Skin Deep trophies. Scarlet Macaws are herbivores, so a Herbivore bait will lure them out. Being very small birds, only the bow armed with small game arrows can score a perfect kill. They leave feathers and exotic bird meat behind when killed, which are used in crafting and cooking.

Scarlet Tanager Songbird

The Scarlet Tanager Songbird is a common bird that can be found in most forested areas in Lemoyne, New Hanover and West Elizabeth. A good hunting spot are the grounds around Braithwaite Manor, to the south of Rhodes. These birds are omnivorous, so you can use whichever type of bait you prefer. Like for many other small birds in the game, you can only get a perfect kill on Scarlet Tanager Songbird with the bow armed with small game arrows. They yield feathers, which can be used for crafting hat accessories as well as other items, as well as gamey bird meat, which is used in cooking.

Siberian Husky

The Siberian Husky can only be found in towns and ranches in West Elizabeth and New Hanover. They appear more often in ranches, however, so use your Predator and Herbivore baits in such locations to make them appear.

Sierra Nevada Bighorn Ram

The Sierra Nevada Bighorn Ram can be found all over the New Austin region, but there are also some hunting spots in the West Elizabeth and Ambarino regions, such as the area on the “West” in West Elizabeth on the map, and right on the “N” in Ambarino. Rams are omnivorous, so use Herbivore bait to make one appear. Rams are rather big in size, so you need to get a headshot with the bow armed with regular arrows, a repeater or even a rifle to score a perfect kill. The bow armed with poison arrows is also a good choice, but you won’t be able to get meat if you kill any animal this way. They yield a pelt, horns and gristly mutton, which are used in crafting and cooking.

Sierra Nevada Bighorn Sheep

The Sierra Nevada Bighorn Sheep appears in the same areas the Sierra Nevada Bighorn Ram spawns, like the whole New Austin and the select hunting areas in West Elizabeth and Ambarino. It’s a herbivore, so only the Herbivore or Potent Herbivore bait will make one appear. As they are not particularly resilient, Sierra Nevada Bighorn Sheeps can be killed perfectly with the bow armed with regular arrows or any repeater. They yield hides and gristly mutton, which are used in crafting and cooking, respectively.

Silver Fox

The Silver Fox also appears in woodlands across Lemoyne, New Hanover, and West Elizabeth, but only at night. If you’re planning to hunt them, but the sun is still up, you can make camp and sleep until nighttime. Like other foxes, Silver Foxes are omnivorous, so both Predator and Herbivore baits are good to flush one out. Silver Foxes aren’t exactly the strongest and most resilient animals around, so the bow armed with regular arrows is more than enough to get a perfect kill on them. If you want to lessen the chance of them running away, you can also use any repeater from a greater distance. The perfect fox pelt can be used to craft a hat at any trappers, while the stringy meat is used in cooking. All Animal Locations Guide (4)
